IVY LEE ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR MARKHAM REGIONAL COUNCILLOR IN 2026

Bringing Decades of Experience and a Commitment to Listening, Service and Practical Solutions

MARKHAM, ON — 2026 — Ivy Lee has officially announced her candidacy for Markham Regional Councillor in the 2026 municipal election.

With decades of experience in healthcare, business, community service, media, customer service, translation, and charitable work, Ivy is seeking to bring her practical experience and strong connection to the community into public service.

“Markham Is the Community I Love”

“Markham is the community I love deeply,” said Ivy Lee.

“I am not running simply to offer campaign slogans. I want to bring the experience I have gained through many years of living, working, and serving in the community and give back to the community I care so deeply about.”

A Long Record of Community and Public Engagement

Ivy has participated in Markham municipal elections for many years. She was a candidate for Ward 8 Councillor in 2006 and 2010, Regional Councillor in 2014, Ward 4 Councillor in 2018, and Regional Councillor in 2022. In 2026, she is once again seeking election as Markham Regional Councillor.

Through these experiences, Ivy has continued to meet residents, listen to their concerns, and gain a deeper understanding of the issues affecting families and communities across Markham.

Experience in Healthcare, Business and Community Leadership

Ivy brings 35 years of healthcare professional experience and 38 years of business ownership and management experience.

From 2023 to 2025, she served as a Store Manager, gaining additional practical experience in operations, management, and customer service.

In 2007, Ivy founded the Canadian Chinese Liberal Association (CCLA) and served as its Founding President. The organization's inaugural dinner that year attracted more than 300 attendees.

Ivy also founded and operated Modesty Magazine (《優雅雜誌》), which was published for 14 years before being acquired by CanAd.

Understanding the Challenges Faced by Individuals and Families

Following the 2022 municipal election, Ivy was recruited by a lawyer to work in customer service and translation.

Through this role, she assisted clients with personal and family matters and provided communication, coordination, and counselling support for personal and family issues.

She helped clients communicate with relevant parties and work toward appropriate solutions.

“This experience gave me an even greater understanding of the challenges that individuals and families can face,” Ivy said. “It reinforced for me the importance of listening carefully, understanding people's concerns, and helping them find practical ways forward.”

Connecting with Residents Through Language

Ivy can communicate in six Chinese dialects, English, and some Malay.

She believes that multilingual communication can help build stronger connections between residents from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

“Language is more than a tool for communication. It is a bridge that helps us understand one another and connect our communities.”

Priorities for Markham

If elected, Ivy will focus on issues that directly affect residents, including:

    • Public transportation and community connectivity
    • Services and support for seniors and families
    • Community safety and quality of life
    • Supporting local businesses and small businesses
    • Responsible urban planning and sustainable development
    • Strengthening communication between residents and government

“I believe public service is about listening, taking action, and accepting responsibility,” said Ivy Lee.

“I want to bring my experience back to the community and work with residents from all backgrounds to help build a Markham that is more livable, connected, vibrant, and welcoming.”
