Voter Information Letters

Closer to voting days, every voter who is registered to vote on Markham’s municipal voters’ list will receive a personalized Voter Information Letter (VIL) in the mail with details on when and ways to vote.

Note: A VIL is required to vote online.

If someone is eligible to vote but does not receive a VIL, they may not be registered at their current address or at all. Voters can check and update their registration status using our online Register to Vote service.

VILs will start being mailed through Canada Post at the beginning of October. Candidates will be notified once VILs have been mailed.

Special Voting Places

Special voting places provide in-person voting service exclusively for eligible resident voters of the host facility. If non-resident voters arrive at a special voting place, they will be directed to the nearest regular voting place or encouraged to vote online.

Access to scrutineers to observe voting at a special voting place will be determined at the sole discretion of the host facility.

Special ballots not cast through an on-site vote tabulator will be processed centrally by Elections Markham before final voting day. Candidates will be invited to observe the sorting and processing of special ballots.
